Gabriel Escalona – 2D Animator | Lunacreciente YouTube channel

LunaCreciente is a YouTube channel that uses Cartoon Animator to create engaging and catchy music videos, and more, for early childhood learning. With over 8 million subscribers to date, this channel is a shining example of how Cartoon Animator is being used to produce quality 2D animations in record time to draw audiences in.

In his interview with Reallusion, Gabriel Escalona talks about how Cartoon Animator provides him with tools that allow him to work fast without sacrificing quality.

“I’m not a professional animator. And that’s the reason why Cartoon Animator software is perfect for me, because it has premade character motions that I can use and edit. I can simply drag and drop motions on to my characters and the hard part of animating is already done for me!”

Gabriel Escalona – 2D Animator | Lunacreciente YouTube channel

Q: Hello Pablo, and welcome! Can you tell us about the work you’re doing with Cartoon Animator?

Right now, I’m animating some Halloween projects for my Lunacreciente YouTube Channel. We are producing a number of songs about monsters. With these videos, we want to entertain young children. The purpose of the channel is to educate children and make them learn basic things, such as the days of the week and the months of the year. Also, we feel it is important that they want to learn while they have fun.

Q: Please share with us, why did you choose Cartoon Animator as the platform to create your content?

Well, honestly, I’m not a professional animator. And that is the reason why this software is perfect for me because it has premade character motions that I can use and edit. I can simply drag and drop motions onto my characters and the hard part of animating is already done for me!

Q: What would you say is your favourite genre or theme to work with?

Music videos are my favourite content to work with Cartoon Animator and primarily that is what we create. We tend to do all kinds of genre, just as long as they can be used to educate children. It’s fun to take our songs and bring them to life with 2D animation.

Q: What would you say are you favourite features/tools of Cartoon Animator?

I have no doubts that the camera tool is the one that I most enjoy. It allows me to add a rhythm in the compositions and make them more dynamic. In addition to the camera functionality, I also enjoy the character manager because this allows me to modify the bones and customise all parts of every animated 2D character to make them unique. I also find the create script function a valuable tool that allows me to add audio.

Q: Do you find the process of creating animated 2D characters and content for Cartoon Animator easy and enjoyable?

Yes. The software is really comfortable to use. I’ve been using it for three years and have learned a lot in that short time.

Cartoon Animator makes animating easier because there are preset motions already done which you can quickly apply to a character. So, you don´t spend too much time focusing on the smallest details of your animation. But if you need to, we can go back through an animation and fine tune it with the keyframe timelines.

Q: What advice would you have for inspiring developers looking to break into the Reallusion Marketplace and sell their content?

I would say to be patient. Learning is not something we can do in a short time. Although Cartoon Animator is easy to use, you need to be patient to learn perfectly how to use it.  The first step is to follow all the official YouTube tutorials made by Reallusion that are available online. Then start by making easier animations, like walking or running, and in no time you will be working on more complicated projects.

Q: Do you have plans for future content in the works?

Yes. I hope to learn more about the software and create more incredible things and videos. I honestly think the sky is the limit with Cartoon Animator. I would like to learn how to use the apply visual effects in post production with After Effects software.

My goal is to produce more professional animations. Maybe like La Vaca Lola Projects, that are very similar to Pinoccio’s. But the objective is always the same: educate and have fun.

Q: What advantages do you find Cartoon Animator gives you?

The possibility to create your own animated 2D character using Photoshop and the premade motions are definite advantages. Tools such as blink and being able to change shapes of the character with the Deform tool make the process of 2D animation much easier and more enjoyable. It allows me to finish faster and look at the smaller details.

Q: Can you tell us what projects have you most recently been working on?

Right now I am working in a series of videos called Pinocchio Songs, where Pinocchio teaches children some things while he dances and sings. Teach basic things, such as the alphabet, and also importantly, make sure everyone has fun.

So many kids are laughing while they repeat parts of our songs. That´s magical.
